Parliament passes Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026

KAMPALA — Parliament on Tuesday passed the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026, adopting amendments that significantly narrow its scope, remove contentious provisions and introduce safeguards aligning the law with the Constitution and existing regulatory frameworks.

The Bill, which had attracted intense public debate, now proceeds for Presidential assent. The Speaker thanked Members for what she described as a "rigorous and consultative" process.
