Uganda launches e-accounting tool to formalise SMEs and boost revenue

KAMPALA — The Government of Uganda has launched a simplified electronic accounting platform aimed at helping informal small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) transition into compliant, growth-oriented businesses, as part of wider efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation.

Launching the platform, the Permanent Secretary / Secretary to the Treasury, Mr Ramathan Ggoobi, said the e-accounting tool would lower the cost of compliance for small businesses while broadening the tax base.

The initiative is part of the Ministry of Finance's Domestic Revenue Mobilisation Strategy.
