For journalists, photographers and producers covering Government of Uganda activities.
Eligibility
Who may apply
Accreditation is open to a broad range of media practitioners, both local and foreign.
Apply online
Submit your file.
Choose your pathway, enter applicant details and attach the required documents. You’ll receive a reference number you can use to track the file.
Documents are stored for reviewers only. Submission does not itself constitute accreditation.
Requirements & Fees
Two pathways. One standard.
Local journalists & editors
- Fully completed Media Council of Uganda registration form
- Letter of introduction from the editor or employer
- Copy of identity card issued by the employer
- National Identity Card
- Two colour passport-size photographs
- Six (6) by-lined published works from the past 12 months
- Proof of payment of registration fees
Foreign journalists
- Fully completed Media Council of Uganda Form G
- Clearance letter / Certificate of good conduct from Interpol in country of origin (where no active Interpol office exists, a National Police certificate plus a cover letter from your embassy in Uganda)
- Letter of introduction from your employer
- Copy of identity card issued by employer
- National Identity Card (where applicable)
- Copy of passport — with visa page — valid for the term of accreditation
- Two colour passport-size photographs
- Visa / Work Permit (Special Pass) — apply online at visas.immigration.go.ug
- Proof of payment of accreditation fees
Work portfolio · Form G section
Online media
Verifiable street address, phone & email; at least 60% original news content; updated minimum 3 times a week; six (6) by-lined articles in the past 12 months.
Independent production
Provide a letter from a broadcast organisation or film distributor committing to air or distribute the work.
Freelancers
Provide an assignment letter from a specific news organisation or publication, plus six (6) by-lined articles published in the past 12 months.
The procedure
From application to card.
A five-step pathway managed by the Secretariat at Communications House, vetted by the National Accreditation Committee.

Submit application
Scan and email completed Form G with all attachments to emma@mediacentre.go.ug — or use the online form on this page.

Document review
The review team at Communications House verifies completeness and contacts you for any clarifications needed.

Internal processing
Administrative Secretary, Research & Documentation Officer and Secretary review the file in turn.

Vetting
The National Accreditation Committee vets the application, typically within seven (7) working days.

Card issuance
On approval, the Secretary signs Form G and your accreditation card is prepared for collection.
